Launched in 2024, PTE Core is the designated English proficiency test for individuals applying for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR), citizenship, and work permits.

Approved by IRCC, it is the modern alternative to IELTS General Training, offering a 2-hour, computer-based experience with results typically available within 48 hours.

PTE Core Test Structure: Practical English for Real Life

PTE Core evaluates your skills through real-world, vocational scenarios. Unlike the Academic version, you won't be tested on university lectures, but rather on workplace and social interactions.

1. Speaking & Writing (Approx. 50 Mins)

This section assesses your ability to communicate in everyday situations.

~ New Task: Respond to a Situation:

You will listen to and read a scenario (e.g., apologizing to a colleague or asking for a favour) and provide a spontaneous spoken response.

~ New Task: Write Email:

Instead of a formal essay, you will write an 80-120 word email based on a specific prompt, focusing on tone, purpose, and clarity.

~ Core Skills:

Includes Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, and Describe Image, all scored by Pearson's advanced AI for total objectivity.

2. Reading (Approx. 30 Mins)

Focuses on your ability to understand notices, workplace manuals, and general articles.
